Introduction to SubIDs

What are SubIDs?

SubIDs (sid), also referred to as TransactionIDs (tid) in some cases, is a unique identification tag attached to your affiliate URL or link to help you identify the affiliate transaction that occurs with that link. The 202 tracking system utilizes SubIDs to track each and every click that goes through the system whether it's pay-per-click (PPC), pay-per-view (PPV), social network marketing (facebook, myspace, etc...), or even SEO organic results to some extent (202 tracking system should work with almost every type of marketing medium available online).

By automatically generating a unique numeric SubID for each and every click, no two clicks will ever be alike allowing for maximum tracking efficiency as oppose to someone manually doing it themselves for every click (which isn't possible) or putting a general SubID that doesn't separate each individual click.

How SubIDs Work

So the 202 tracking system automatically assigns subids to each and every click by placing the SubIDs at the end of your affiliate URL. In order for the SubIDs not to interfere with your actual affiliate link, we need to enter what is called a SubID syntax at the end of each of your affiliate links that you enter into the system in step 3 of Tracking202 or Prosper202.

This is to ensure the SubIDs being added do not interfere with your actual link and redirect the customer somewhere else than intended. Each and every network has it's own SubID syntax so be careful which syntax you use. Inprosper use of SubID syntaxes can cause several problems such as dropped SubIDs reporting, incorrect redirection of visitors to proper offer page, etc. For examples of some network affiliate links and SubID syntax they use, please refer to SubIDs202 (a live DivX video is available for visual explanation too if you prefer to watch the video tutorial: [Video 1, Video 2]).

Once you enter the SubID syntax at the end of your affiliate URL, the 202 tracking system will assign a numberic SubID that is added to each and every click that goes through the system identifying every click. When a customer clicks on that link, any pertaining data attached to that click including any keywords searched, text ads tracked, landing page used, campaigns and offers bring ran, etc... is carried with the SubID. Once a click converts into a sale or lead on the affiliate network end, the SubID is passed onto the affiliate network alerting the network that a sale or lead was made and this is the SubID that came with it. Should you choose to cloak your affiliate links, the only information that would pass on to the affiliate network side is the SubID information.

Implementing SubIDs Tracking

Once you are using 202 tracking via Tracking202.com (Hosted Solution) or Prosper202.com (Self-Hosted Solution), you'll have a SubIDs report available for download from your affiliate network each time you receive a lead or sale (assuming the affiliate network supports SubID tracking, which most do; if they don't support SubIDs tracking, you can also use the pixel tracking solution provided by the 202 tracking system).

Every network that supports SubIDs reporting will have an area for your to download SubIDs from. CPA Valley, an affiliate network for example, allows SubID tracking and reports can be downloaded by logging into your account, going to Stats, then selecting Overall Stats.

Once there, select the date range you want (it'll default to the current month up to the current day) and hit download optional info.

By doing this, it'll ask you to open or save a file via Microsoft Excel. Once you have the file open, all values under the "info" column would be your SubIDs.

Copy all of these and head over to the 202 tracking system, click on the UPDATE tab, and paste all your SubIDs into 202.

Now hit update. Once update has been completed, all your sales or leads should be reflected within the 202 tracking system in OVERVIEW and all converting data should be available under ANALYZE and VISITORS. It is important to note that different networks may have a different way of grabbing your SubIDs report, please check accordingly.

Other SubIDs Information

It is important to note that you can add extra SubID variables in addition to the numeric one 202 generates for you automatically. However when updating SubIDs into the 202 system, the system will ignore any extra variable it did not generate itself so you must update only values generated by the 202 system. You'll still be able to see the extra variables you added in the SubIDs reporting however for personal reference. Another thing to note is that SubIDs that are reuploaded into the system more than once will be ignored once they're in the system so you don't have to worry about pasting the same SubID and having it credit your account more than once. The system is smart enough to know that the SubID already exist. If you've made a mistake and paste in SubIDs that were not actual leads, there is also a Clear SubIDs function available. Please be aware that some networks show ALL SubIDs rather than just CONVERTED SubIDs. We want the ACTION ONLY aka CONVERTED SubIDs updated into the 202 tracking system, not ALL SubIDs.

Hopefully this brief tutorial help you gain a better understand of what SubIDs are and how they work, specifically with the 202 tracking system.
